Why you should get your hearing checked regularly

Unley Hearing Clinic

Even if you have glasses, you still see your optometrist once a year, right? Because your eyes change over time, and guess what? Your hearing is exactly the same, it can change. That’s why, it’s essential to keep getting your hearing checked even after you’ve acquired your hearing aids.

Sometimes life can get busy! But making time to keep up with your health is very important.

So, you’ve just got a brand-new pair of hearing aids, WOW! Everything is so much clearer; you can hear the birds chirping and conversations in crowded places have just become a lot easier.

Over time, and once you have really acclimatized to your aids, there can be some fine tuning to do. A little boost in certain frequencies and a different size dome tip could make your already improved hearing even better!

Occasionally your hearing devices might need adjusting due to changes in your daily life. Lifestyle changes, like retirement, new hobbies, or family circumstances, often mean that your listening environment changes.

It may be beneficial to change settings on your hearing aids to enable you to hear better in these new circumstances this may mean a small adjustment could be due.

Also, your hearing can change slowly over time? It may not be very obvious as changes can be small, however, routine hearing tests with your audiologist enable your hearing to be monitored and hearing aids adjusted to suit your needs over time.

Our Audiologists and Audiology Receptionists are professionals in identifying any problems in your hearing aids! We often have solutions to keep them performing optimally.

Whether it’s a small issue like replacing a hearing aid battery, cleaning moisture or the contacts, or something a bit more complicated like needing a new wire, our Clinicians and Audiology Assistants can do a lot of hearing aid repairs and servicing on site.

Having regular checkups means we can have a good look at your hearing aids, to make sure you are getting the very best out of them, and having an experienced pair of eyes look over them occasionally can’t hurt!

Some issues you may encounter with your hearing aids may not require an appointment! For example: Hearing aids come with some really cool phone apps, they can turn sounds up and down, enable different settings and show you how much battery those rechargeables have left!

Getting these apps connected up to your hearing aids can sometimes be confusing. If you’re having trouble, come in to see one of our audiology assistants at the front desk! They can help you straight away.

They’re trained and experienced in troubleshooting these technologies and might be able to show you some tips and tricks, no appointment needed!

We also recommend an annual check-up with your clinician – and this is a free appointment so don’t be afraid to book in! Ensuring your hearing aids are adjusted correctly to your needs can reduce the emotional impact of hearing loss.
