In addition to academic qualifications, our team undergoes rigorous hands-on training in earwax microsuction. This involves learning to use specialised tools and equipment, such as operating microscopes and gentle suction devices, to effectively clean the ear canal without causing damage.

Moreover, we stay up-to-date with the latest developments and research in the field of ear care and microsuction. By maintaining a strong commitment to continuing professional development, we ensure that our clients receive the highest standards of service available.

Finally, excellent communication skills are a key aspect of our specialist skill set. The cost for a wax removal at our clinic is $100.00.

What is Earwax Microsuction?

Earwax microsuction is a safe and efficient procedure for removing excessive or impacted earwax from the ear canal. We use a delicate suction device, designed specifically for this purpose, to gently vacuum the earwax. Unlike some other methods, we do not introduce water or other liquids into the ear during microsuction, making it a more comfortable and less messy experience for our patients.

The process begins with a thorough examination of the ear using a microscope or Voroscope. This allows us to assess the amount and location of the earwax, as well as the condition of the ear canal and eardrum in a magnified view. Once we are satisfied that microsuction is the appropriate treatment, we gently insert a small suction nozzle into the ear.

During the microsuction process, we carefully and gently manoeuvre the nozzle to remove the earwax, taking great care to avoid touching the delicate skin of the ear canal or the eardrum itself. The entire procedure typically takes between 20 and 30 minutes to complete. Although there may be some mild discomfort during the microsuction, it is generally well-tolerated and does not cause any lasting pain.

It is essential to remember that not everyone requires earwax removal. Earwax plays a vital role in protecting the ear from dust, debris, and possible infections. However, if you are experiencing symptoms such as hearing loss, discomfort, or recurrent infections, it may be necessary to consult with an Earwax Microsuction Specialist in Adelaide at Hearing Sense to determine if the procedure is appropriate for you.

Benefits of Earwax Microsuction

Safe & Gentle

Firstly, earwax microsuction is considered to be safer and more comfortable than other procedures, such as ear syringing. This is due to the delicate and precise operation involved, which minimises the risk of any damage to the eardrum whilst allowing us to maintain clear vision throughout the process.

Quick & Efficient

Earwax microsuction is typically a speedy procedure. In many cases, it can be completed within a single session, making it particularly convenient for clients with busy schedules or who wish to avoid prolonged recovery periods. Also, since it is performed without the use of water, there’s little to no chance of introducing an infection during the process.

High Success Rate

Another notable advantage of earwax microsuction is its high success rate. Our skilled specialists are proficient in the technique, which often results in a highly satisfactory outcome for our clients. This lends itself well to the relief of symptoms such as hearing loss, tinnitus, and vertigo, which can be severely impacted by excessive earwax accumulations.

Versatile Treatment

Finally, earwax microsuction is a versatile treatment option applicable to various client needs. For instance, it can be safely performed on individuals with perforated eardrums, who would be at increased risk of complications from traditional earwax removal methods. Additionally, it can cater to clients who have ear canals that are narrow or irregularly shaped, ensuring that the procedure is accessible and suitable for a wide range of people.

Frequently Asked Questions

The cost of earwax microsuction removal is $100.

Yes, many GPs offer earwax removal services within their general practice. You may like to double check whether they perform syringing (using water) or microsuction (safest option). If your GP does not offer this service, you can book in for microsuction at Hearing Sense. There is no referral required.

No. You can simply call us on 8331 8047 to book in.

Microsuction is considered the gold standard for wax removal. It is a safe and effective method for removing earwax. It involves the use of a small, specialised vacuum to gently remove the earwax without the need for water or syringing. This reduces the risk of infection and perforation of the eardrum, while also being less traumatic to the ear canal.

Microsuction is more precise and targeted compared to other earwax removal methods. Traditional syringing and irrigation methods can be uncomfortable and may cause complications such as ear infections or eardrum damage. Microsuction avoids these risks as there is no introduction of water into the ear and the procedure is more controlled. In addition, microsuction usually requires fewer visits than other methods.

While microsuction is a safe procedure, there are minor risks and side effects that can occur. Some patients may experience temporary dizziness, mild discomfort, or occasional ringing in the ear. However, these side effects are usually short-lived and subside shortly after the procedure. Serious risks or complications are rare when performed by a qualified healthcare professional.

A microsuction procedure for earwax removal usually takes around 15 minutes per ear, depending on the amount and type of earwax present. In some cases, the healthcare professional may require a follow-up appointment if the earwax proves to be particularly difficult to remove or if the procedure needs to be performed in stages.

Yes, chemists commonly stock over-the-counter earwax removal kits that include ear drops and bulb syringes. However, we recommend using these kits with caution, as improper use can lead to damage or infection in the ear. Always follow the instructions provided and consult a professional if you have any concerns.

Ideally, we recommend putting some olive oil or wax softening drops in your ears one to two nights before your appointment. This allows hard wax to be softened slightly which means it is easier and more comfortable to remove. You can simply use olive oil with a pipette or teaspoon and then lay on the opposite ear for 2 minutes to give the oil a chance to get right down into the ear canal. Just wipe away any excess oil with a tissue. Then repeat on the other side.

You can also purchase Clean Ears wax oil spray from Hearing Sense at the cost of $15.
