Bernafon is a Swiss company who have been manufacturing hearing aids for over 60 years. Bernafon prides itself on the highest standards of Swiss Engineering, ever since Hans Gfeller Junior in 1946 developed Switzerland’s first hearing instrument for his father Hans Gfeller, founder and then head of Bernafon.
They belong to the William Demant group, along with Oticon and Sonic Innovations.
The story of Bernafon started in Switzerland when young Hans Gfeller Jr., a student in engineering, got a hold of his father’s new hearing aid. Instead of admiring what was then the best in audiological technology, he took it up to his room, grabbed a screwdriver and proceeded to take it apart, piece by piece.
While history doesn’t tell what Mr. Gfeller Sr.’s reaction was when he found out what happened, we know it didn’t take long for him to start developing and selling his own sound amplification devices.
They launched the first digitally programmable hearing aids in 1988 which changed the face of hearing aid programming from using screwdrivers and trimpots to actually programming devices using a computer. In 2002, Bernafon became world leaders again by introducing the first Channel Freeâ„¢ hearing system, a unique approach to signal processing.
This is similar to a hybrid car, it is combining the best two technologies from Bernafon to give a clear sound no matter where you are.
