Bernafon is a Swiss company who have been manufacturing hearing aids for over 60 years. Bernafon prides itself on the highest standards of Swiss Engineering, ever since Hans Gfeller Junior in 1946 developed Switzerland’s first hearing instrument for his father Hans Gfeller, founder and then head of Bernafon
They belong to the William Demant group, along with Oticon and Sonic Innovations.
The story of Bernafon started in Switzerland when young Hans Gfeller Jr., a student in engineering, got a hold of his father’s new hearing aid. Instead of admiring what was then the best in audiological technology, he took it up to his room, grabbed a screwdriver and proceeded to take it apart, piece by piece.
While history doesn’t tell what Mr. Gfeller Sr.’s reaction was when he found out what happened, we know it didn’t take long for him to start developing and selling his own sound amplification devices.
They launched the first digitally programmable hearing aids in 1988 which changed the face of hearing aid programming from using screwdrivers and trimpots to actually programming devices using a computer. In 2002, Bernafon became world leaders again by introducing the first Channel Free™ hearing system, a unique approach to signal processing.
They now focus on a sophisticated hearing technology called DECs which allows for seamless natural sound with impressive fidelity. This allows clear listening to conversations in a restaurant or noisy situations. It also means true clear fidelity for music so perfect for music lovers.
The Viron 9 is the latest hearing aid from Bernafon and uses “True Environment Processing”. Which means the hearing aid continuously analyses the listening environment. It measures the speech and noise levels separately and averages both the short and long term signal to noise ratios (SNR). Allowing the system to provide more audibility to speech while keeping noise to a minimum. Which allows the wearer to immerse themselves in the natural sound environment and experience sound which is simply closer to reality.
This small and stylish receiver-in-the-ear hearing aid, which is designed to fit perfectly in the ear canal, is suitable for both mild to profound hearing losses and now responds appropriately to sudden environmental changes. It is a Made for iPhone design that also supports Bluetooth, allowing for a direct to ear streaming.
Bernafon also has rechargeable hearing aid options. Viron miniRITE T R is Bernafon’s first rechargeable hearing instrument to feature a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. It allows power for a full day of use including sound streaming and phone calls.
A wide range of hearing accessories are also available to enhance the use of your hearing aid in everyday situations. This includes the Bernafon EasyControl-A app for iPhone and Android devices. The app is an even easier way to control the volume, battery level and settings on wireless devices connected to your aids.
They also offer the Saphira and Nevara hearing aids as entry-level solutions.
The Bernafon office in Australia is based in Nundah, Queensland.
They also support charitable work and were involved in the Hearing Nepal program, supporting children and adults with hearing rehabilitation.
